EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
I am a Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), aligned with SCoPEd Column C, with over 25 years’ experience in psychotherapy, supervision and professional training. SCoPEd Column C recognises advanced levels of training, experience and professional practice.
I am also a qualified clinical supervisor and COSCA-accredited counselling trainer. My professional background includes extensive work within specialist trauma services, the voluntary sector, prison settings and private practice. I currently work with adults and older adults.
I feel deeply passionate about the value of psychotherapy and the importance of providing a space that is warm, respectful and professionally grounded. I aim to offer a collaborative and safe therapeutic relationship where clients feel able to be real, bring vulnerability, and explore difficult experiences at their own pace. I feel it is a privilege to work alongside people as they develop greater understanding, self-compassion and meaningful change in their lives.
Before establishing my private practice, I worked for 12 years as a senior counsellor within a BACP-accredited service, where I managed and supported a team of counsellors. As part of this work, I provided therapy within HM Prison Edinburgh for five years.
I have taught on counselling diploma programmes and facilitated the COSCA-accredited Certificate in Counselling Skills: Substance Use and Dependence, a course I wrote, developed and delivered. My wider professional experience includes published research and invited conference presentations on counselling, diversity, trauma and substance use.
My qualifications include a BACP-accredited Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling, a Certificate in Counselling Supervision, a Postgraduate Certificate in Community Education, and an Honours Degree in Psychology.
Before training as a psychotherapist, I worked in sexual health services and later with homeless young people. I also taught in adult education, specialising in self-confidence and self-esteem.
I am committed to ongoing professional development, ethical practice and maintaining a high standard of care for the people I work with.
